In the last few years we have seen media boom, so many TV channels, newspapers, magazines, fm radio, etc. But where is the quality lost?
Also the focus is on silly matters.
1. TV ‘news’ shows the fights between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law, but the news of disastrous flood in Uttarakhand because of the Tehri dam on Tehri river is not shown.
2. We see the small trivial details of cricketplayers’ and film actors’ weddings. But we are kept away from real issues of concern where poor villagers in Pongging in Arunachal Pradesh were mercilessly beaten by armed forces in the months of May and June, because of their democratic mass protest against dams. Even old people women were not spared. One old woman’s clothes were torn apart by the govt armed forces.
3. Ministers who own TV channels show their speeches which support dams. This makes their sponsors in the form of power companies and Sonia Gandhi happy. But we are not shown the news where two huge dams in USA has been blasted and broken because of the disasters caused by them. The removal of two dams on the Elwha River in America is not shown by the govt of India and not talked about by the state govt.
This is the reality and triviality of the numerous media groups which are functioning all around us in the 21st century. We have to rely on our own reasoning power than on govt owned media organizations in our region.
