PORAM appeals for Loktak conservation

IMPHAL, Nov 3: The Policy and Organizational Research Associate Manipur (PORAM) and Senior Citizens Forum, Mayang Imphal, have appealed to the concerned authority to review the works implemented for the conservation and management of Loktak Lake.

A joint release of the organizations said that Loktak Lake has been included in the list of wetlands as per the Ramsar Convention of 1990 and the state government is currently implementing various projects under special packages of Planning Commission of India (PCI) for the conservation of biodiversity of the Loktak Lake.

It further stated that the SPF government under the leadership of O. Ibobi has termed the financial package received from the PCI as a milestone achievement of the government but the true essence of this project lies in the sincerity of the implementing agencies.

The PORAM and Senior Citizens Forum have also demanded the concerned authority to sort out a clear cut demarcation of the boundaries of the Loktak Lake and review the mode of implementation and progress of the Loktak conservation project from time to time.
