Protests continue to held on Meghen missing issue

IMPHAL, Nov 25: Different sections of the society and students continue to press demand for revealation of whereabouts of UNLF chairmen RK Meghen alias Sana Yaima, who was reportedly arrested in Bangladesh and handed over to India.

Even as UNLF chief’s whereabouts remain uncertain, various civil soiety organisations and students of various educational institutions staged protest sit ins at different places demanding revealation of underground leaders status and resolution of Manipur-India conflict democratically.

RK Meghen, it may mentioned was reported to be arrested jointly by the Bangladesh police and Indian intelligence agency RAW from Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh on September 29 afternoon.

Students, teachers and staffs of Pioneer Academy, Palace Compound, wore black badge and stage protest sit in at the front of school premise this afternoon. Similar protest was also conducted by volunteers of Chingmeirong Maning Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Association at their locality today.

Yengkhom Ongbi Sanatombi, a member of the Chingmeirong Maning Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Association said that the Association is taking up such step like sit-in-protest not to express support to the movement launched by Meghen but to reveal about whereabouts of a missing person.

Further she mention that a long time has passed since RK Meghen was arrested but the state government and the central government are keeping the public in dark. She also appeal to both state and central government to reveal whereabouts of RK Meghen within a week. In case of failure of the government to reveal the whereabouts of the UNLF chairman during the stipulated period, the association will take up follow up action with support from other civil society organisations if necessary, she added.

In the meantime, Naharup Awang Leikai Women Welfare Association has demanded revealation of the whereabouts of RK Meghen at the earliest.
