IMPHAL, Nov, 6: On the eve of Ningol Chakkouba festival, the proscribe revolutionary Peoples Front has extended its
heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur.
A Ningol Chakkouba message issued by the outfit’s publicity secretary, T Leishemba said Manipuri women had been shouldering
immense responsibility towards keeping up the Manipuri society by excelling in various fields be it in sports, arts &
culture, cottage industry skills apart from taking leading role towards economy development. The women in this part of the
land are also torch bearer in the fight against human rights violations and leading in this front is Sharmila, who
steadfastly choose to oppose AFSPA and kept aside all the festivities including the Ningol Chakkouba for the last ten years,
the RPF statement said.
Ningol Chakkouba is not about solely having feast amongst brothers and sisters, but it symbolises Manipuri society’s utmost
regard shown to the women community as followed from time immemorials and the day is a reminder of such a sacred day, the RPF
statement added.
