School asked to pay compensation

IMPHAL Nov 23: The court of the Consumers’ Dispute Redressal Forum Imphal in a judgment have ordered the authorities of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya located at Pangei to pay a compensation amount of Rs 5,865 to one student of the school.

A press release by N Purnachandra Meeitei, general secretary of the Consumers’ Club Manipur stated that a class XII student of the school, namely Jitnun from Sagolband Moirang Leirak had approached the Consumers’ Club regarding a complaint against the school. The complaint was made in the regard that Jitnun was made to fork out school tuition fees and transport fees for some months during which the school had remained closed on account of the 23 July Khwairamband incident in which two person namely Ch Sanjit and Th Rubina were killed.

Jitnun was made to pay the school fees amounting up to Rs 1865 then.

The consumers’ club had taken up the case filed under number 61 of 2010 and submitted the petition to the Consumers’ Court on 26 August this year. As per recent judgment passed by the president of the court Dr.Chongtham Narendra and members Laxmi Devi and A C Netrajit ,the same have ordered the authority of the RK Sanatombi Bidyalaya to return the fees taken from the student and to pay another 4000 Rs for the cost of litigation charges. The court directed the school to fork out the total amount of 5,865 Rs within a month’s time.

The petitioner was represented by Nongmaithem Dilip Singh of the Consumers’ Club.
