Strike callers appeal for public cooperation

IMPHAL, Nov 11: The 17 different social organizations including AMUCO, AMSU, NIPCO, HERICOUN and KSA which have earlier announced to boycott Sonia Gandhi’s visit scheduled tomorrow have once again appealed to the people to render utmost support and cooperation to the 15-hour general strike called from 2 am to 5 pm against the failure of the Indian Government to disclose the whereabouts of the chairman of UNLF, RK Meghen.

A joint statement of the 17 organizations said that the people of the state should refrain from visiting the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi under whose control the Indian Government functions. The very undemocratic attitude of concealing the whereabouts of UNLF leader RK Meghen by the Indian Government has caused furies amongst the Manipuris.

It further mentioned that the Indian Government has been violating the rights of the people in the name of countering insurgency and hence the people should boycott the leaders until and unless the whereabouts of RK Meghen is made known to the people.

The organizations also warned that anybody who tries to defy the general strike shall be held responsible for any untoward consequence.
