Village chief manhandled by SoO militants during Kut celebration

IMPHAL, Nov 3: A group of armed militants under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) disrupted Chavang Kut festival at Boljol Village in Churachandpur district and severely beat up the village secretary including his two associates.

According to a late information received by the press it has been informed that the incident occurred on November 1 evening at around 9 pm.

The injured village secretary has been identified as one Sonpao who is stated to be in a critical condition. His rib bones are reportedly fractured besides other body injuries and currently undergoing treatment at the Churachandpur district hospital. The two accomplices did not suffer major injuries and their identities are yet to be known.

According to the informed source, on the fateful day the village had successfully observed the morning session of KUT festival and to ensure a successful celebration the village authority had asked all shops in and around

the village to remain close for the evening session of the festival.

At around 9 pm a group of armed militants entered the village and approached a shop belonging to one Paolam and ask him to open it. When the shopkeeper declined, the armed miscreant started using force and ordered all the shopowners to open their shops.

While trying to intervene and neutralize the situation the Village secretary along with his two accomplices were thrashed by the armed militants without any warning resulting in disruption of the Kut event and sending the villagers in panic.

Meanwhile a team of Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police station rushed to the spot in order to control the situation and in the process the security forces fired several rounds and neutralized the situation.
