White doves released as festival of hope, justice and peace fest ends

IMPHAL, Nov 6: The five-day long “Festival of Hope, Justice, Peace”  organized by Just Peace Foundation in commemoration of
the completion of 10 years landmark of the epic fast by Irom Chanu Sharmila fighting for the repeal of Armed Forces Special
Powers Act, AFSPA 1958 concluded today in a function held at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex, Imphal.
All communities’ prayers were offered at the concluding function praying for well-being of Irom Sharmila in her indefatigable
struggle against human rights violation in the state.
The members of Extra-judicial Execution Victims’ Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) also released white doves as a mark
of ushering peace and prosperity in the state.
Speaking to the media, the executive-director of Human Rights Alert, Babloo Loitongbam stated that the next edition of this
festival of hope, justice and peace celebrating the spirit of Sharmila will be organized in different parts of India as a
mark of solidarity by the rest of India to the struggle for the repeal of AFSPA by human rights activists across the world.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate instructed the concerned jail authority to grant permission to the team of rights
activists from outside the state to visit Sharmila but still the SP Imphal-East has not granted the permission.
The rights activists are still waiting for the permission to visit Sharmila.
It is still uncertain if the home department would grant permission or not.
