IMPHAL, Nov 13: Demanding the concerned authority to disclose the whereabouts of the chairman of UNLF, RK Meghen, who was reportedly arrested by Bangladesh Police and Indian intelligence officials from Dhaka, residents of Yaiskul Janmasthan Leikai including family members of the UNLF leader held a sit-in-protest demonstration today in front of Heecham Yaicham Pat, Imphal.

Speaking to mediapersons, the daughter-in-law of RK Meghen, RK Binda said that the people of Manipur do not have trust in the government anymore in the clarification and assurances of Chief Minister Okram Ibobion the matter of her father-in-law’s arrest as no finger seems to have been lifted so far to make a serious inquiry.

The Indian Government has concealed the whereabouts of RK Meghen even after the report of his extradition to New Delhi was made by BBC correspondent, she said.

The concerned authority should disclose the whereabouts of RK Meghen on humanitarian ground and ensure free and fair trial according to the law of the country, Binda asserted.

Today’s protest was an attempt to garner support to rally behind the voice against “Involuntary Disappearance”, “however, this should not be misconstrued as a justification to what he (RK Meghen) is, rather it is a validation of a citizen’s rights, besides there is a strong ground on humanitarianism,” cautioned Brinda.

Some of the placards in the protest demonstration read: “Come out with official confirmation statement”, “Respect human values”, “Reveal RK Meghen’s physical and mental status”, “He should be given protection of all humanitarian and international laws”, “Do not flout humanitarian laws”, etc.

The people further decided to launch stern agitations if the authority does not reveal the whereabouts of RK Meghen as soon as possible.
