AFSPA will go when intimidations end: CM

IMPHAL, Dec 11: In an appeal on behalf of the SPF government in the wake of the boycott call against ministers and MLA including the Chief Minister from participating in this year’s Orange Festival, the MPCC president Gaikhangam has urged ushering in of peace and economic development by encouragi8ng the Congress led SPF government in Manipur which have brought tremendous development. 
Speaking today at celebration of 125th anniversary of the INC held today at the office of the Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee as part of the year-long observation of the anniversary, the MPCC president further said boycotting the state government will only served the purpose of boycotting development of the concern district.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who also attended the ceremony, said the government need cooperation from the public in bringing of peace and development in the state.
The Chief Minister also chided the feelings and aspirations of certain groups of people who only think about their community instead of thinking of the state as a whole.
Touching on the issue of AFSPA, the Chief Minister elaborated that the current situation makred by kidnappings, hurling of bomb, extortion etc. in the name of monetary demands on a daily basis in the state will only make AFSPA stay longer in the state.
Stating that the present law and order situation has greatly harmed the state, he said the government is trying its best to control the law and order and situation to provide a safe and peaceful environment for the people.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the state government is committed to protect life and property of the state citizens and in doing so government forces sometimes have to take lives even though the government will never think of killing any person unreasonably.
He further elaborated on the need of the people to safeguard their own customary rights, religion, and in case of failure to protect their own customary rights, religion, and the people should approach the government for help, in which case the government will come to help.
He further stated that his government had to face numerous problems in the initial stage of coming to power as the previous NDA government had totally failed to provide anything good for the people. However since the past 3-4 years, the SPF government in Manipur have started providing something good for the people including timely distribution of salaries and wages. 
The Chief Minister also maintained that the SPF government still has a lot to do in order to make the state self sufficient, and in order to do so the government has already started numerous schemes and programmes at the various allied sectors of Agriculture department like the Horticulture, vety and fishery etc. The state government has also started various projects and schemes including provision of job oriented schemes to unemployed youths, making minor irrigation better in the state and series of programme on flood control.
State needs the Congress led government in order to achieve all the mentioned development activities in the state, Ibobi asserted.
Youth president MPCC Prithivi Raj, deputy speaker Th Lokeshore, chief whips T Mangibabu, MLA E Suraj also attended the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita who was supposed to attend and address the function failed to turned up even though the reasons for his absence was not disclosed.
