AR captures 350 kg of Ganja

IMPHAL, Dec 12: The 5 Assam Rifles of 59 Mountain Brigade under the aegis of Red Shield Division is carrying out day and night vigil of the areas all along the national highway-39. The measures have been taken up due to rise in unlawful activities along the national highways due to upcoming festivities, a statement said.

The round the clock vigil of the AR managed to capture 350 kgs of grade-1 Ganja from a vehicle at Maram on night of December 10 and foiled an abduction bid of a truck driver bearing Regd No. MN 01 6064 by PSG cadres near Senapati town on the same night.

The statement further said the PSG cadre named Loli Mao, a resident of Mao Karang was also apprehended and later handed over to police. The contraband Ganja was carried in a truck hidden under a false flooring.

As per the NCB sources, the Ganja recovered was worth Rs 3.5 Lakhs. The driver and the co-driver involved in Ganja peddling were also taken into custody. This year alone a total of 9500kgs of Ganja has been recovered along NH-39 by security forces. These recoveries have severely impinged on the illegal finances of underground element, the AR statement claimed.
