DESAM hauls up another nursing institute

IMPHAL, Dec 23: Amidst the controversies and disputes regarding Nursing institutes in the state, a scam has further gripped another nursing institute in the state with DESAM yesterday claiming the fraudulent activities of the National Rural Health Guide, Hospital and Research Institution Centre located at Soibam Leikai, which had duped its students of more than Rs 2 crores and 90 Lakhs.
The student association in a press conference held at its Keishampat office Wednesday regarding the issue paraded the chairman of the Social Health Worker Organization under which the nursing institute was formed. The chairman has been identified as Kshetrimayum Ibotonbi of Mayang Imphal Thana Wangkhei Leikai and presently stated to be staying at his wife’s parental home at Nambol Sabal Leikai.
Wangmayum Islauddin, vice president, DESAM speaking to media person during the press conference stated that the school after claiming to be attested to the S Kumar Nursing Trust which has also turned out to be an un-recognized entity in itself, had duped its around 450 students.
Further speaking at the conference, he added that due to the non recognition status of the School by the Manipur State Nursing Council, its student has been disallowed to take their annual examinations by the state nursing council.
Wangmayum Islauddin has further stated that the fake institute has duped the students of Rs 950 for admission and a monthly fee of Rs 550 from each student amounting to around Rs 2 crores and 90 Lakhs.
He further stated that the institute was providing a 8 month long training programme on Village Health Worker, and had further fooled 29 of its students with the false assurance that after the completion of the 8 month long training they will be admitted to ANM courses for which the 29 students had already paid Rs 5000 each as their admission fees.
He further added that of the 29 students 27 had already paid an additional Rs 1250 as their examination fees for ANM exam.
He further declared that the institute had duped not only its students but also its four tutors who were employed to teach the students.
Furthermore the victim tutors have been identified as S Chitra who had been duped off Rs 3000 in the name of registering the institute with the nursing body, the next has been identified as L Karuna who had to pay a sum of Rs 20,000 as donation. From the third tutor identified as Th Binata, the institute took Rs 10,000 as donation. The institute also duped the last tutor Maibam Jurmana with a sum of another Rs 10,000 as donation.
The vice president of the association further apprised that 27 students were staying at the hostel of the institute which was a rented building housing both the hostel and the school. The owner of the rented building has been identified as Taorem Guardhar of Soibam Leikai. The students staying in the hostel without any wardens were to cook for themselves as the institute had failed to supply their mess, he added.
S Chitra, tutor at the institute while speaking to the media persons claimed that she was appointed the asst secretary of the fraudulent NGO without her own knowledge.
During the conference it further came to light that the fraudulent NGO and its chairman had also formed a committee called the Local Area Hospital managing Committee and had duped another 432 students from 18 centres of different parts of the state with the false promise of admitting them to the Village Health Worker course for which it had already collected a sum of Rs 500 as admission fee from each of the 432 students. 
The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur has further warned the members of the fraudulent NGOs anyone associated with it to contact the student association within five days, failure of which will result in the handing over of the case to the public.
The vice president further speaking for the student organization has appealed to the various individuals who have rented their buildings to institutes and schools to first clarify the antecedents of the owners of the schools and institutes.
In the meantime the chairman Kshetrimayum Ibotonbi has accepted all his fraudulent activities and has further assured to refund the amount he had fraudulently amassed to the victims of his frauds at the earliest.
