Education department to hold school meet

IMPHAL, 30 Nov: The 3rd Annual School Meet-2010 to be organised by the education department will commence from December 5 which will continue till December 8. This was disclosed by education minister L Jayenta Kumar during a press conference held today at his office chamber.

The mega event was first started in the year 2008 at Sainik School, Imphal with a budget of Rs. 10 lakhs and budget for the second edition was Rs. 32 lakhs, the education minister said adding this year’s budget for the annual school meet has been fixed with Rs. 34 lakhs.

The annual school meet is being organised conceptually to encourage and promote talent of the students to set themselves in a field of sports and other curricular activities, Jayenta said.

The minister also mention that 81 students from nine districts including four teacher-in-charge will take part in the the 3rd annual school meet. All the participants will be accommodated at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

The minister further revealed that for the 3rd edition of the meet, three sub committees have been formed on October 14 last to look into exigencies in various departments of organizing the event such as mess, transport, media and publicity, sports activities, infrastructure, etc.

Sporting disciplines like football, kho-kho, mukna, athletic, badminton, marathon and non-sporting and non-competitive events like elocution, quiz, painting, symposium etc. would be organized during the meet which will be supervised by technical teams of the state level associations.

The 3rd annual school meet will be graced by the Governor of Manipur as chief guest while chief minister O Ibobi Singh will close the event.
