Five injured in bomb blast at crowded Nagamapal market

IMPHAL, Dec 6: At least five persons were injured during a road side bomb explosion along the busy Imphal city street of Nagamapal road stretch under the Lamphel police station today evening at around 5.40 pm.
According to information received from the incident spot, the blast occurred around 5:40 pm in front of a grocery store belonging to one Mahendra Bhagat, s/o (L) Ram Kriti Bhagat of Bihar, however no one who were around the shop at the time of the explosion were able to point out how the explosion occurred.
Police believe it to be the handiwork of suspected militants in connection with monetary demands to one or other of the nearby business establishments.
Meanwhile it is yet to be confirmed whether the explosion was from a grenade even though considering the nature of the explosion and damage inflicted by the explosion, the police believed it to be a hand grenade, however as no one around the spot had seen anyone lobbing the bomb it is yet to be as ascertained.
The timing of the explosion being the evening rush hour when people coming back from their day’s work are busy buying their household provisions, five persons were injured by the splinters from the explosion and all five were immediately evacuated to the nearby RIMS for treatment.
The injured persons have been identified as Konsam Ibocha, 32, son of Jarma of Lilong Arapti Mayai Leikai, Noarem Prabin, 50, son of Ibobi of Wahengbam Leikai, Akshay Nayak, 18, son of Adhan Nayak of Bihar at present staying at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Thangjam Robindro, 29, son of Khomdon of Lilong Arapti and Pramod Malik, 29, son of Pameshor of Orissa at present staying at Nagamapal Kangjabi.
 Of the five injured Ibocha and Prabin sustained splinter injuries at their heads of which Ibocha is stated to be in critical condition while the rest sustained minor injuries at their legs.
Meanwhile getting information of the explosion along the busy Nagamapal road a huge team of Imphal West district police along with a team of district police commandos attached to the Imphal City police station conducted an immediate search operation at the surrounding areas including Nagamapal Sinjubung Leirak, Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak this evening to track down the escaped miscreants, but there was no report of arresting any suspects during the search operations by the police commandos this evening, besides a case has been officially registered by the Police in connection with the blast resulting in the injury of five persons this evening.
