Five UG cadres lay down arms before IG Assam Rifles

IMPHAL, Dec 20:  At least five cadres belonging to three separate militant groups surrendered along with sophisticated arms and ammunitions to the security forces very recently.
In this connection a formal surrender ceremony was performed at the conference hall of 9th Sector IAGR (South) Mantripukhri this morning around 11am during which  one cadre each of under ground groups UNLF, PREPAK, KCP and two cadres of PULF  laid down their arms and ammunitions to the IGAR (South) Maj. Gen.  CA Krishnan and Additional DGP, Manipur V Zathang, IPS.
The cadres who have surrendered with arms and ammunitions during the surrender ceremony today were identified as Yumnam Romeo alias Panthung son of late Y Yaima of Sugunu, Thoubal district, a UNLF cadre, and he had surrendered along with one M-16 Rifles and had reportedly joined the outfit during 2001, Mutum Jiten alias Jiban, 26, son of Mutum Seihou of Oinam village, Bisnupur district a cadre of KCP (Noyon) group he surrendered with one 9mm pistol and reportedly joined the organization during December, 2008, Ningthoujam Ranjan alias Spirit, 23, son of N Ibotomba of Sugunu Napet, cadre of under ground PREPAK and surrendered with one 9mm pistol and he reportedly joined the outfit during the year 2007, and two other cadres of under ground PULF identified as, Md. Nazirkhan, 26, son of Md. Karimuddin ofIrong Makha Leikai under Mayang Imphal police station a cadre of PULF (Azad) group, and he surrendered with one 9mm pistol with four live rounds and two magazines and he had reportedly joined the organization during the month of December 2006 and Md Salmankhan, 22, son of late Sana of Yairipok Tulihal, a self style corporal of PULF (Umar Farooque) group, he surrendered with one 9mm pistol.
In the meantime, Addl. DGP, Manipur V Zathang while attending the surrender ceremony this morning at the conference hall of IGAR (South) appreciated the cadres who came out from the dark side of life and joined the mainstream of life again.
He further mentioned that, the surrendered cadres are now free from of any bondage and apprehensions as they will be safe in their future and their families will also be very happy when they attend to the mainstream of life and such steps is likely to lead the state towards a peaceful and more meaningful direction.
He further recalled that, he was once posted at Mizoram while there was serious violent activities committed by the MNF, however now every one has seen that Mizoram has now become one of the most developed state in the region which has been made possible with the end of insurgency problems and MNF in Mizoram and such stage as that of the present Mizoram could also be expected in the state of Manipur, if the misguided youths of the state are ready to enter yet again the mainstream, he added.
IGAR (South) Maj. Gen. CA Krishnan in his speech during the ceremony this morning mentioned that the homecoming of 84 youths during this year is indicative of the improving situation in the state and will prove to be a beacon for other misguided youth to lay down their arms, abjure violence and return to the main stream. The family members and relatives of the surrendered youths who were present during the ceremony expressed their happiness at the homecoming of the youth.
