IMPHAL, Dec 21: The post of the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly which has been lying vacant ever since the demise of Speaker Dr. Sapam Budhichandra is likely to be filled up by the MLA of Singjamei assembly constituency, I. Hemochandra as the consensus candidate from the ruling party.
According to a reliable source, MLA I. Hemochandra is the only candidate who has taken the nomination form for the post of Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The filing of nomination paper has been fixed tomorrow and the election for the post of Speaker will be held on December 23.
The opposition party has also decided not to set up any candidate in the Speaker’s election.
It is clear that I. Hemochandra will fill the vacant post of Speaker even if other MLAs from the ruling party including Deputy Speaker Th. Lokeshwar are desirous of this post.
There have been many speculations about the Speaker’s election but finally Hemochandra has hit the bull’s eye in the competition.
