IMPHAL, Dec 22: MLA, Irengbam Hemochandra who was elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Singjamei Assembly from Congress-I ticket is sure to be elected as the next Speaker of the Assembly tomorrow as he is the lone candidate to serve notice of motion officially to the secretary, Manipur Assembly to contest election to the office scheduled to held at 10 am tomorrow morning at Assembly hall.
Hemochandra, has served notice of motion this morning just before the commencement of 9th state Assembly session to the secretary assembly secretariat with a total of 30 members from both the ruling and the opposition parties proposing him and seconded the proposal.
Besides, senior rulling MLA, L Nandakumar had reportedly served his notice of motion to the secretary state assembly secretariat this morning with the proposal by state health and family welfare minister Ph Parijat and seconded by MLA Brajbidhu but withdraw his motion of notice to contest election to the office of the speaker this afternoon.
The formality for the election to the office of the speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly will be done at 10 am at the Assembly hall as per the rules, according to the secretary state assembly secretariat, Y Indrani Devi.
It may be mentioned that, the office of the speaker had remain vacant ever since the sudden demised of speaker Dr Sapam budhichandra on September 29 last at AIMS due to his illness, and the office of the Speaker has been taken charge by the deputy speaker Th Lokeshore following an official order of the governor Manipur and the ongoing 9th session of the state assembly is going on with the deputy speaker taking the chair of speaker.
