IMPHAL, Dec 17: A combined force of Imphal West district police commandos and 26 Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions during a search operation launched today in between Kangchup Chingkhong and Chiru under Sapermeina Police station in Senapati district.
The recovered items includes one M-16 Rifles, 32 lethode shells, 10 Chinese made hand grenade, four 0.36 hand grenade, 423 live ammunitions of AK Rifles, 213 live ammunitions of M-16 Rifle, a Radio set, five detonators, two magazine of AK Rifles, two 7.62 sniper ammunitions, one 7.62 LMG ammunition and one lethode shell pouch.
All the reovered arms and ammunitions were displayed today in a press conference held at the Commandos Complex, North AOC, this evening.
Speaking at the press conference, deputy SP operation Commando, Imphal West, S Ibomcha while briefing media persons disclosed that on receiving specific intelligence input, the combined team under the supervision of Th. Krishnatombi Singh, deputy SP Commando Imphal West cordoned the said areas since early morning around 5 am and conducted search operation.
During the course of search operation at about 8:10 am specific inputs from the sources, the arms and ammunitions were found buried inside the earth wrap in a polythene bag separately.
The Deputy SP revealed that the concealed weapons might have been reserved for carrying out extortions and to launch attack on security forces.
S Ibomcha claimed that the Imphal West police have in similar incidents recovered huge arms and ammunitions including arrested of several hard core militant cadres owing to the improving intelligence sources of the department.
