“Maoists have links with Manipur militant groups”

Kolkata, Dec 5 PTI: The Maoists have forged close links with militant groups from the Northeast for training and supply of arms and ammunition, a senior police officer said here today. “The Maoists, since at least six to eight months, have developed a tie-up with the People“s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), Manipur,” Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Task Force, Rajiv Kumar told reporters.
Naxals are also in talks with one or two other such organisations operating from Manipur, but with Prepak the ultras have already reached ground-level operations, he said. “After interrogating top Maoist leader Kanchan alias Sudip Chongdar, who was arrested here along with four other Maoist operatives and with information from papers seized, we are certain of the links,” he said.
Kumar said that Prepak militants were trained in the dense jungles of Jharkhand by the Maoists in exchange for arms and ammunition. Formed in 1977, Prepak“s main demand is the expulsion of outsiders from Manipur.
Kumar said that the Maoists, apart from these Manipur insurgent groups, also have links with like-minded outfits in the Philippines and a few other countries.
