IMPHAL, Dec 21: A two day state level workshop on preparation of a â€˜Draft State Rules for Right of the Children to Free and Compulsory Education for the state of Manipurâ€™ was organized on December 20-21 by the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR).
As per the press note, the workshop was held at the central secretariat office at Maringlane, New Checkon, Imphal and district partners from Ukhrul, Chandel, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West took part in the workshop and discussed details about the â€˜Central Model Rules on Right to Educationâ€™and Draft Andhra Pradesh State Rules on Right to Education as reference.
A separate Draft State Rule for Manipur was prepared by inclusion of specific points into relevant sections such as children living with HIV/AIDS, conflict affected children, displace and migrant children were given emphasis for providing special provisions in the draft. Further, the press note stated that the Draft State Rules on RTE of Manipur, which has been prepared by the MACR, would be submitted to the State Government and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for necessary action at the earliest.
The MACR also appeals to all sections of the society, especially the civil bodies and educated intellectuals to come forward for a collective movement striving for successful implementation of the historic legislation. To increase awareness and ensure effectiveness the MACR who started campaigns on RTE by conducting series of state level training, workshops with VECs, interface with officials of education department, district level peoples convention will now launch a state wide IEC campaign on RTE in the hills and valley districts for bringing a wider awareness on the fundamental right to Right to Education.
