Mob justice for man who caned minors

IMPHAL, Dec. 2: An irate mob gathered today at Nambol partially destroyed a house belonging to a man who allegedly beat up two minor children without specifying proper reason.

The destroyed house belong to Heisnam Samananda aged about 45 years son of Niteshwar of Bamdier Awang Leikai under Nambol police station.

Local sources said an irate mob carried out attack at Samananda’s residence following a news spread in the locality that Samananda had beaten up two minor cousin brothers without specifying proper reason.

The two minor boys beaten up by Samandana were identified as Okram Tomnao, 9 son of Okram Ipi and Okram Ajit, 11 son of Okram Ahanjao of Bamdier Mayai Leikai under Nambol Police station in Bishnupur District.

According to a locality, the two minor children were playing with some of their friends at gate of Keisham family in which Samananda interrupted and started beating up the two children. Samananda forcibly carried both the children to a hill side called Machin-Manao Ching.

Ajit somehow managed to escaped and sounded an alert in the locality. When locals reached the hill side, Samanada was found beating Tomnao, a local informed media. Even after Tomnao was under the custody of the locals, Samananda tried to beat the minor boy with unreasonable blame. Tomnao recieved injuries in the head and body while Ajit escaped with minor injury at the neck.

Following the incident, a large crowd gathered near the residence of Samananda and later destroyed the house partially.

The case has been filed under Nambol police station with child harassment and attempt to kill child and accused has been handed over to Nambol police station.

The localities, in a meeting held later, decided to turn out the Samananda’s family from the locality.

Locals said Samananda had a criminal record in the past and his family was forced out from Konthoujam due which his family had been staying at Bamdier. The locals also alleged that Samananda attempted to kill Ajit’s father Okram Ahanjao few years back.
