IMPHAL Dec 12: The Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has sought clarification from the Manipur Board and state government to clarify regarding the class X examination held by both the CBSE and state education department.
A press release by MSF joint secretary Lucky Konsam asked whether the newly adopted method (Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation or CCE) of the CBSE regarding the metric exams will be treated at par with the same exam conducted by the Manipur Board of Secondary Education.
The statement alleged that the new CCE system implemented under trial basis following directive from the Ministry of Human Resource from 2010 session onwards may have a negative effect to the students. It may also hinder the progress of imparting quality education, the MSF alleged.
Dwelling on the probable effects of the system, MSF said it feel apprehensive that the students studying in CBSE curriculum may not take the examination seriously. The students have to give examination for a mere 40 marks whereas the state counterparts have to struggle for a total of 600 marks. The easy method of giving the metric exam by students have left parents preferring to send their wards at the CBSE institutions. The said schools are pooping up in ever nook and corner of the state, MSF said.
The metric exam is considered as the first big challenge in the career of a student but the CCE system have made the students lazy instead of honing their skills, the students body said.
Further, it is doubtful if the schools will conduct the exams fairly as many institutions would rather let the students use unfair means just to hike the reputation of the school. The CCE system have been criticized from various intellectual circles due to the downsides of the system. Will the system be later revoked similar to the National Institute of Open Schools, the students with the NIOS certificate was denied recognition by the Manipur Board, Council and University. Such a similar fate may await the students giving the CCE exam system and it will be their sole loss, the statement added.
The MSF also highlighted that the students in order to be educated about the history, geography, regional environment and culture of Manipur should opt to study the Manipuri text books as to become better acquainted with the state past and present and strive to bring more developments.
The MSF appeal state government to clarify to the public whether the students having CCE certificates will be given due recognition and have no problems in getting employment in future.
