Opposition MLA demands ‘White Paper’ on Meghen’s arrest

IMPHAL, Dec 4: MPP leader and opposition MLA RK Anand today demanded a ‘White Paper’ from the Government of India on the whole episode of the reported arrest of RK. Meghen alias Sanayaima, chairman of the UNLF, starting from the day he was reportedly arrested from Bangladesh on September 29 till date.

RK. Anand stated this during a press conference held today at his Kwakeithel residence.

Speaking to mediapersons during the press conference, RK Anand maintained that the Government of India has violated international norms and law of human rights by concealing the arrested UNLF leader for more than two month thereby creating an uncertainty over the actual report from where the rebel leader was arrested.

The very attitude of the GOI is an indication of discrimination and suppression towards the people of the region, opined RK Anand.

The opposition MLA further lamented that it was unfortunate the way law enforcing and intelligence agencies were acting against the rebel leader from Manipur. The intelligence agencies have violated the law of the land by failing to produce an arrested persons in stipulated time hence amounts to violating the norms and rights granted under a democratically set up government.

He held that the ‘White Paper’ should produce at the level of Prime Minister, Home Ministry and the Law Ministry.

Even though RK Meghen alias Sanayaima is leader of an underground group, he should be shown some regards recalling the history and sacrifices made by his forefathers, and also as a Manipuri.

RK Anand stressed the need to continue peaceful and democratic ways of agitation besides various political parties, CSOs and Government of Manipur should work sincerely tackle the issue.

Regarding the tripartite meeting held yesterday at Senapati in connection with the UNC demand, RK Anand strongly condemned the tripartite talks held between the United Naga Council with the representatives of the GOI and Manipur Government observing that the talk was a threat to the territorial integrity and communal harmony of Manipur.

The talk is a plot of the GOI to disintegrate Manipur and to follow India’s divide and rule policy using frontal organization of the NSCN (IM) opined RK Anand. There was no difference between the demand of the NSCN (IM) and UNC due to which such talks are unacceptable in the soil of Manipur, RK Anand asserted and said the ruling Congress led SPF government in Manipur must not allow such talks that could harm the territorial integrity of Manipur.
