IMPHAL, Dec 26: There can be peace and development in the state only if the grievances of the people are redressed, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi during the observation of 87th Dal Day held today at Congress Bhavan, BT Road, Imphal.
The Dal Day is observed on the last Sunday of every year to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices made by the volunteers of Seva Dal of the Congress Party.
The Chief Minister further maintained that the Congress Party is one of the largest and oldest in the world having firm and strict democratic ideologies. The party has been serving the people for the last 125 years and it had been instrumental in the country’s freedom movement, Ibobi asserted.
Dwelling on the behaviour of the volunteers of Manipur Seva Dal, he said that the Central leaders of the Congress Party have quite lauded the state volunteers of Seva Dal for their well mannered and disciplined behaviour. The volunteers of Seva Dal have been working selflessly not only for the party but also for the people of the country, the Chief Minister said.
Being a pluralistic society, the Manipur should cultivate a sense of oneness amongst the communities, Ibobi enjoined.
He also appealed to all to live in harmony and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, G. Gaikhangam stated that the volunteers of State Seva Dal have been rendering valuable services, but often security personnel manhandled their volunteers in full uniform.
This happened also during the recent visit of AICC President Sonia Gandhi’s visit all on account of ill manners of the security personnel, he said.
The security personnel did this even when the volunteers they were in uniform and had necessary security passes, he noted.
Gaikhangam also drew the attention of the Chief Minister to ensure dignity and respect to the volunteers of Seva Dal from the part of the security personnel.
He further lauded the volunteers for their selfless and dedicated service rendered to the Party as well as to the people of the state.
The observation function was also attended by Congress MLAs, office bearers of MPCC and other frontal organizations including Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and NSUI.
