IMPHAL, Dec 16: The Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee has drawn attention of the state government to give equal treatment to the pineapple farmers of the state like those orange growers of Tamenglong district.
A release of the committee said Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his council of ministers had attended the Orange Festival at Tamenglong despite of bandhs and boycotts. The Chief Minister had even announced Rs 10 lakhs as grant for organizing the orange festival from next year but he had not contributed even a single paise to the organizers of Pineapple Festival at Bunglon, it said.
The committee further decried the step motherly treatment made to the pineapple growers and appealed to the state government as well as the concerned horticulture department to promote the farmers regardless of orange, pineapple or passion fruit.
