Police foil attempt to storm education ministers residence

Imphal, Dec 3: Successful candidates of the DPC held for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT, 2006 today tried to stormed the residence of the state education minister L Jayentakumar located at Pishum Oinam Keikai demanding immediate appointment.

At around 1:20 pm today, about 70 successful DPC candidates marched towards the residence of education minister L Jayentakumar but they were stopped by a team of Singjamei police led SDPO Vikramjit at Singjamei.

The protestors who were visibly agitated by the long overdue demands to be placed at the recommended jobs indulged in sloganeering and displaying placards that read ‘No politics in education’, ‘Save primary education’, ‘Don’t victimized selected candidates’, ‘Let education be a free zone’, ‘Implement government’s genuine order in toto’ etc.

One of the protestors rued, ‘We are demanding appointment of candidates of primary hindi teachers as per the recommendation of the government but there has not been any positive intent to resolve the issue by the government so far.’

‘The protest is against Jayantakumar who has been disappointing us by scuttling our appointment to have audience with him. His attitude and conduct towards us is deplorable and he is not satisfactory to the public and is grossly incapable of being a cabinet minister. He is one of the most corrupt ministers in the state and he should step down from his capacity as a minister on moral ground,’ the protester said revealing the rally was intended to ‘storm’ the minister’s residence which was thwarted by police.
