IMPHAL, Dec 13: The state police force today rescued a doctor who was kidnapped from his Leimapokpam Primary Health Centre office by five unknown armed person suspected to be militants.
According to a release of the SP, Bishnupur, a team of Bishnupur Police Commandos assisted by the Imphal West Commandos under the supervision of SP, Bishnupur while conducting an extensive operation at Leimapokpam, Shantipur, Wahengkhuman, Ishok Pat rescued one Ayush doctor identified as Wangkhem Nabachandra Singh,43, of Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai who was kidnapped on gun point by five unknown armed UGs including one woman cadre suspected to be KCP (MTF) who came in a Diesel Auto at around 11:30 am today.
In the meantime, according to sources, the said abductors had taken six mobile phones of the PHC staffs where the doctor was working and the file of the TB patients of the health centre.
A case has been registered at the Nambol PS for further investigation, added the release.
In the meantime, security forces arrested at least three militant cadres in separate counter insurgency operations launched in different part of the state.
A statement issued by the PIB Defense Wing said troops of 16 Maratha Light Infantry of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division apprehended one cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman faction from Salam Kunjen trijunction on December 12. the individual has been identified as SS Sergent Major Oinam Halloba alias Bobby alias Naoton alias Newson alias Khaganba (20), son of O Tamchao, resident of Chingmei Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur District.
It said the arrested individual revealed about his involvement in delivering extortion demands and collection of money from contractors and government officials. He also revealed that he was involved in carrying out recruitment at various places like Thanga, Keibul and Kumbi for the terrorist outfit. The apprehended terrorist was handed over to Kumbi Police Station, the release added.
In another operation, troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles of Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division apprehended one cadre of the proscribed UNLF from Nachau on December 12. The arrested militant has been identified as Self Styled Lance Corporal Ningthoujam Surjeet Singh alias Nganlamba (22), son of Jayam Ningthoujam, a resident of Nachau Ward No 3, Bishnupur.
The PIB defence wing statement also said the individual revealed about his involvement in extortion related activities in and around Bishnupur district. The apprehended terrorist has been handed over to Bishnupur Police Station, the release added.
On the other hand, a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), claimed to have arrested one cadre of the proscribed PREPAK. The arrested militant has been identified identified as A Ibotambi, 58yrs, s/o Late Kalu of Chingningkok, Lamlai.
Three detonators and five liverounds of AK 47 were recovered from the possession of the arrested militant who alongwith recoveries were handed over to Porompat Police Station.
