Private schools call for curriculum adjustments

IMPHAL, Dec 19: The All Manipur Recognized Private School Welfare Association, Manipur has today convened a press conference at their Keishampat office relating to the current academic calendar and the double enrolment exercise of certain students and the action taken up by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur regarding the issue.
Gojendro Tharoijam, working president of the association while speaking to media persons today has claimed that the current schedule of the enrolment for the school students of class X, XI and XII, which falls on December while their exams are held in March is a little too early and has demanded from the concern authorities to change the schedule to a more plausible timing with their board exams.
Further claiming that the present rules and regulation which has not been changed even though the academic calendar have been changed by the authorities will negatively affect the school students, he added that the COHSEM should try to change the rules and regulation to be reasonable with the academic calendar.
While appreciating the steps and action taken up by COHSEM regarding the double enrolment by students which allows the students to choose their place of examination centre, he has further maintained that the act of penalizing the students with Rs 10,000 is a little to harsh which will further lead to the degradation of education in the state and as such COHSEM should take a more reasonable and normal step regarding students found guilty of double enrolment.
He has appealed to the council and concern authorities to ban double enrolment in the state instead of penalizing the students with such a large sum.
The association has further condemned the one sided act of the state government, in allowing the hill districts to maintain the old academic calendar due to the objection of the ATSUM against the government order.
