School students to trek Zanskar river at Ladak

IMPHAL, Dec 17: As a part of co-curricular activities of education, the Kumari’s Wood-Stalks School, Monsangei, Imphal, is organizing adventure sport grand trekking expedition to Zanskar River at Ladak, which is considered the toughest trekking route in India.
According to a release of the school, a ten member team comprising the principal S Surendra Singh, team captain, L Surchandra Singh staff, team manager, RK Mangi staff vice captain, S Somen Singh, staff asst. team manager and six other students will leave Imphal on December 20 for the said expedition.
The release further mentioned that, it is expected to accomplish the 450Km long high altitude trekking (5000m above) in 15 days. The trekking will start from the picturesque hill station, Manali in Himachal Pradesh and will trek through the snow bound areas in the Ladak region crossing Gramphoo, Tandi, Chumikgiasa, Sangtha, Rong, Upshi, Karu, Leh, Lamayuru and will trek over the frozen river Zanskar via Darcha, Singo La (5015m), Lahaul valley and finally at the Zanskar valley.
 
This trekking in Ladak is code named as ‘Ultimate Challenge’-II as the team will continue to bear the highly freezing temperature of minus six degree Celsius to minus eight degree Celsius at Leh and it will be minus ten degree Celsius to minus 15 degree Celsius at Zanskar valley.
The release further mentioned that, the Kumari’s Wood-Stalks School, Mongsangei, Imphal west has been organizing adventure sports since its inception in 2005. It has successfully organized trekking expeditions to Cherapunjee (World’s wettest place) in Meghalaya, basic camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga in Sikkim (4700m) Coastal trekking covering Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra (2400km) total distance and many soft andmedium trekkings in Manipur.
The main aim for organizing adventure sports is to install in the minds of the students the spirit of adventure and to imbibe the desire to survive at times of hardship. Students are exposed to real hard situations and privation, and they are taught and trained to face and overcome the hard situation. Such exposure and experience instill in the mind of the students self confidence and the desire to face and overcome hardship and obstacle, the release added.
It is also further mentioned that, with firm belief in the motto of the school, “Espirit-de-corps” and keeping the notion alive, “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going”, this school endeavours to train and teach students to face all challenges and competitions in life with Elan and Panache, the release added
