IMPHAL, Dec 7: In a gruesome attack on unarmed army personnel, one among two personnel of the 5 Assam Rifles B Coy posted at Maram, Senapati has been critically wounded while the other escaped with a few sword cuts.
The two non Manipuri soldiers, both from Andhra Pradesh along with a local colleague were coming to Imphal from Senapati on a civil passenger bus for their vacation and were supposed to depart for their native places from Imphal soon.
The incident happened today evening at Khongampat Matri Leikai under Sekmai Police Station.
According to police source, the attacked happened when the bus, coming from Senapati towards Imphal on NH 39 diverted from the highway at Khongampat Mantri Leikai for refueling.
However unexpectedly, a group of armed unknown persons came up from the back door of the bus and intentionally attacked the two non local AR personnel with swords and small arms, however one of the two personnel identified as P Mahesh, 27, son of Onnurappa of Andhra Pradesh escaped from the bus and ran towards a nearby village from where, he took some villagers and went to the attack site, however they found only the other AR personnel who was by that time lying in a pool of blood. The villagers rushed the two to RIMS immediately.
The critically wounded personnel, identified as P Ramana, 22 of Andhra Pradesh has been shot three times at his back, his left ear has been severed and also received sword cuts on various parts of his body.
Hearing about the incident Y Mohen, Medical Superintendent RIMS personally came to attend to the injured AR personnel.
Meanwhile, the other local personnel identified as one Prem of Airport road, who was on the bus along with the other two has been missing from the scene.
It may be mentioned that the bus driver and everyone traveling on the bus have all gone missing and a police case has been registered by the Sekmai police regarding the incident.
