Alleged hijacker’s residence ransacked

IMPHAL, Jan 25: An Irate mob of Lilong Sambrukhong ransacked the residence of an accuse identified to be one Md. Islau Rahman, 30,s/o (L) Isuk Ali of the same locality allegedly involved in the hijacking of a diesel auto from Imphal Bazaar on January 22, today.
Local sources have identified the accuse as a habitual drug user and also as a repeated crime offender.
The victim auto driver identified to be one Potshangbam Sanajaoba, 28,s/o Pishak of Lambuikhul under Lamlai Police Station, while speaking to media persons stated that he was hired by a youth for taking him to Lilong.
On reaching Lilong Masjid Lamkhai the youth instructed him to stop the vehicle and picked three other youths and forcefully took over the vehicle at gunpoint. He was blind folded and taken to a place and held with his hands tied.
The abductor using the victim’s mobile called his wife claiming themselves to be KCP (MC Tabungba) militants and further demanded a sum of seven lakh rupees from the family before adding that it was a punishment for the driver was caught with a huge amount of drugs in his vehicle.
Fortunately he managed to escape somehow in the wee hours today when he noticed that none of his captors were present at the place he was held captive and met a morning jogger who later helped him to reach home safely.
The jogger helped him narrate the story to the locals who suspicious of Islau Rahman’s past record went to his residence on which the accused fled from the scene, which further angered the locals.
Subsequently the mob ransacked the house completely.
