IMPHAL, Jan 28: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has warned the Government of Manipur that they would be compelled to launch various forms of democratic agitation from February 1, 2011 till the issues concerning tribals are amicably addressed and realized.
A statement signed by Apao Haokip on behalf of the federating units of the union, said that the federating units of the ATSUM is aggrieved and compelled to issue this joint ultimatum against the State Government’s indifference in contravention to the wishes of the hill people.
It said that the cabinet decision of the Government of Manipur without any rationality and justification and against the recommendation of the HACA for deputing senior MCS officers as Executive Director of DRDA whatsoever has been stiffly opposed by the people of the five hill district.
The non accomplishment of reservation rules is construe as an insult to the Act as well as of the deserving communities in question, it maintained. Moreover repeated appeals and persuasion to this issue has failed to pinch the authoritarian government till date to complete the legitimate urge.
Further the statement asserted that the introduction of the new academic calendar of the state due to mere closure of schools in the valley district is not acceptable. The hills will not follow the new academic calendar under any circumstances and the only option for the Government is to review the order at the earliest or follow different academic calendar in the hills, it said.
The recruitment of SOs in MSRRDA in total contravention to the convention practice by the State Government regarding reservation is not acceptable to the tribal people. The reply of the minister concern lack logic and we condemn in highest level. Either the government filled up the post which are due to the tribal or terminate the whole process and recruit new SOs with proper presentation of the tribal, it said.
With an ardent for mitigating these long pending grievances amicably, the government had remained adamant and obscure to the detriment of tribal bodies, alleged the statement.
