IMPHAL, Jan 29: The National Committee of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) comprising of MP Bijoya Chakraborty, MP Tirit Somaiya and former MP Tapirgao, who have initiated to divulge Rs 10, 000 crore scams under the Congress regime in the North-East, will also visit the Kabaw Valley which was once gifted to Myanmar by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
MP Bijoya Chakraborty has already raised the issue of Kabaw Valley as calling attention motion during the last Parliamentary session. The BJP is committed to handover the gifted territory of Kabaw to Manipur once again, the leaders said during an interaction with mediapersons.
Various civil society organizations, students’ bodies and intellectuals also met the BJP leaders before they left Imphal today morning. The leaders were apprised of the prevailing graft and corruption charges of the SPF government.
The three-member national BJP team who was in Imphal to enquire graft charges against the Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur left for Guwahati today, onward to Arunachal Pradesh.
Before leaving the State the team interacted with civil society organizations such as students’ organizations and Association of DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT, 2006, etc. besides meeting professors of Manipur University and intellectuals of the State.
Four students’ bodies have, on condition of anonymity, revealed submitting memorandums to the visiting team of BJP apprising and decrying the rising corruption graph in Manipur.
Association of DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT, 2006, has similarly submitted a representation to the team claiming that the “controversial” news report of the results carried by one local newspaper which was later subdued and hidden away as bogus by the government is infact genuine and therefore the candidates whose names figure in the list should be awarded appointment letters.
The visiting BJP team assured the DPC successful candidates association and the students’ bodies that the matter would be relayed to the party’s central command and the government of India for due action.
Later, the State BJP president, Shantikumar informed that the national vice-president and Member of Parliament, Bijoy Chakraborty, will visit Myanmar towards the last week of February to meet his counterpart on the issue of Kabaw Valley. Accusing the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, of giving away a portion of Manipur—Kabou Valley—to Myanmar, Bijoy had yesterday said during an interaction with the media that the BJP will fight for the restoration of Kabou Valley to Manipur.
The three-member team of national BJP, comprising of MP Bijoy Chakraborty, Tapir Gao, general secretary BJP and its national secretary Kirit Somalya, arrived here yesterday on a two-day fact finding mission on the allegation of misappropriation and siphoning of public funds by the chief minister and his deputies from the Congress led SPF government in Manipur. Among the many charges leveled against the chief minister and his government, the most notable one being “Loktak Lake scam” worth Rs. 300 crore project for the management and cleaning up of phumdis from Loktak Lake which, as Kirit puts it “have gone down the drain just like the phumdis.”
The other charges being, one on primary teachers’ recruitment scam and the other on national highway construction scam.
