IMPHAL, Jan 29: The Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) has decided to intensify the fast-unto-death agitation demanding the implementation of 6th revised pay for the government school teachers of the state following negative response from the Chief Minister.
A release of the COTA said that 14 representatives of the association including three teachers from the jail held a meeting with the Chief Minister today to discuss the demands of the teachers who have been on strike for the last many months. However, the Chief Minister categorically said that the primary teachers will not be granted 6th pay and they should receive the pay as per the scale of 1999.
The COTA strongly condemned the irresponsible manner of the Chief Minister for failing to redress the grievances of the school teachers who are the major work-force in uplifting the education system of the state.
