Dead body identified, JAC demands compensation

IMPHAL, Jan 24: The dead body which was found with bullet holes near Sairen village in Imphal West Lamsang Police Station has been identified today as Ningthoujam Rabei, 32, s/o N Khujao of Tairenpokpi Mamang Leikai.
A public meeting was today held at the Tairenpokpi Awang Leikai Youth Club ground against the killing of the youth by unknown armed persons and further formed a JAC in relation to the recovery of the dead body.
The public meeting made various resolutions regarding the killing. The JAC has resolved that any individual from the villages of Sairen, Atom and other neighbouring villagers found guilty in the said incident will be ousted from their concern villages.
The JAC has also demanded compensation for the bereaved family and the concerned authorities to produce the culprits before Janaury 30 or the JAC will start various agitations.
Maintaining that the bullet injury on the victim seems to be that of a shot gun, the JAC has further forbidding using or carrying of such weapons by any person around the area without prior information of the Village Authority and anyone found doing so will be fined a sum of Rs 5000.
In the meantime, a source has claimed that the victim Rabei had left home for Atom village for a thabal chongba celebration on January 19 and had gone missing since then. It has also stated that the surrounding locality heard a gun shot yesterday at around 2:30 pm on January 23 after which his dead body was found near the Sairen village.
The family members have not taken back the dead body which is still lying at the RIMS morgue.
Meanwhile no organization or individual have made any claim regarding the killing.
