IMPHAL, Jan 16: The Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of the state on the auspicious and happy occasion of “Gaan-Ngai.”
The message from the Governor said, “The Festival of Gaan-Ngai which literally means festival of winter season is a festival of paying homage to those souls who departed the year before. It also marks the end of a year and heralds a new one.
It is also an occasion of worship, joy and merriment, providing an opportunity to come together and work for our shared goal of ensuring peace and harmony in the society.
In Manipur, people belonging to various ethnic groups have been living together in harmony from time immemorial and this peaceful coexistence is a glorious tradition of the people of Manipur.
Every community needs to contribute their best in ensuring this glorious and age-old tradition. I am confident that Gaan-Ngai will be celebrated in its true spirit.”
The Governor has also extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to all in the celebration of “Gaan-Ngai” festival.
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has also extended its warm greetings for the “Gaan-Ngai” festival.
The greeting of the ZYF said that Chakan Gaan-Ngai is the festival which symbolizes brightness for prosperity and success for the year ahead and so the festival may bring hope, peace and tranquility in the coming days to all.
