Sensitisation meet on women managers held at Imphal College

IMPHAL, Jan 19: A five-day workshop on sensitization, awareness and motivation for capacity building of women managers in higher education will be organized at Imphal College under the sponsorship of University Grants Commission (UGC) in collaboration with Manipur University from January 20 to 24.
Speaking to mediapersons today in connection with the workshop, the Principal of Imphal College, Ramesh Chandra Haomom stated that the workshop aims at building the capacity of women managers in the higher education sector amidst worldwide campaign for women empowerment. The workshop itself is a rare opportunity given by the UGC for the women of the state, he noted.
Dwelling on the present scenario of women in the higher education sector, coordinator of the workshop, Dr. Meinam Binota stated that there are only seven women vice-chancellors out of 63 vice-chancellors at various universities in India. There has been no woman vice-chancellor at the Manipur University, she said.
There are also less number of women for the posts of registrar, finance controller and examination controller at various universities in the country. In Manipur, there is not a single regular woman college principal, she noted.
The deliberations of the five-day workshop will be on women’s studies and perspective; women and governance; managing professional and personal roles; and women and research.
Altogether 35 women participants from various reputed colleges of the state including RIMS and JNIMS will participate in the workshop.
