State cattle rearers bound for NDRI Karnal

IMPHAL, Jan 12: A team of 30 farmers of Manipur Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited who will be participating in a five-day training programme on scientific dairy farming to be held from January 17 to 21 at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana was flagged off by the director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Dr. Th. Jeevan from the premises of Central Dairy Plant, Porompat.
Speaking to mediapersons after the flag-off ceremony, director Jeevan stated that the Central Dairy Plant at Porompat has a total capacity of processing 10,000 litres of milk daily and at present 5000 litres of processed milk is made available to the public daily.
The dairy plant is also planning to produce 50,000 litres of processed milk daily in the near future. The farmers from the state have been sent to Asia’s largest dairy research institute NDRI at Karnal with the objective of gaining scientific knowledge on cattle rearing which is a good option for self-employment, he noted.
Further, the director maintained that the Manipur is also coming towards the “white revolution” for more production of milk for better health and well-being of the people.
