Workshop on drug policy kicks off at Conference Hall of State Guest House, Sanjenthong, Imphal

IMPHAL, Jan 19: A two-day workshop on the topic “Formulation of State Drug Policy” organized by USER Manipur in collaboration with Social Welfare Department was inaugurated today at the Conference Hall of State Guest House, Sanjenthong.
During the two-day workshop various eminent resource persons will dwell on various topics that will help formulate the state drug policy.
On the first day of the workshop, M. Paikhomba Meitei, legal consultant of Human Rights Initiative spoke on the topic “Acts on Drug Supply Reduction-Its Impact” while Prof. Chinglen Maisnam dwelled on the topic “Alternative Approaches for Supply Reduction in Manipur”. The session was moderated by U.
Nabakishore, chief functionary, Centre for Social Development.
The resource persons for the second day of the workshop will be SASO on harm reduction approach, Dr. Jayenta on demand reduction (treatment), Prof. MC Arun on demand reduction (primary prevention), and Dr. Dhanabir Laishram on the topic “Need for a common approach of civil societies in facing the challenges of drug abuse related issues in Manipur”. The pre-lunch session will be moderated by Dr. Dhanabir Laishram while the post-lunch session will be moderated by Prof. Chinglen Maisnam.
