IMPHAL, Feb 8: All Manipur Student Guardians’ Organization (AMSGO) has appealed to the concerned authority to streamline the working of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) for a better education system in the state.
Speaking to media-persons today at the office of AMSGO, the general secretary of AMSGO, O. Yaima stated that the primary function of BOSEM and COHSEM is to conduct examinations for classes X and XII respectively. However, the BOSEM has been assigned the additional tasks of publishing text-books and conducting recruitment examination of various departments by the state government thereby leading to a messy situation.
He said that the formulation of curriculum and syllabus as well as publication of textbooks is to be carried out by State Council of Educational, Research and Training (SCERT) while the recruitment examination is to be conducted by Subordinate Staff Commission. But, the BOSEM has taken in all the tasks in due consideration of some benefits rather than enhancing the quality of examination.
The murder of BOSEM chairman Kunjabihari was also very much related with the contract work of textbook publication. There would not have been such untoward incident if the BOSEM had not undertaken such additional tasks rather than conducting examination for class-X, Yaima noted.
He further maintained that the state government should take up steps to revive the SCERT and establish separate Subordinate Staff Commission for conducting recruitment examination of various government departments. The working of BOSEM should be made clear for conducting only class-X examination and no other additional task should be assigned to the Board.
The advisor of AMSGO, N. Tomba also appealed to the officials of COHSEM to bring out the textbooks of Hindi and commerce papers which are hard to find in the market.
