DESAM peeved by government’s failure to provide incentives

IMPHAL, Feb 12: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has strongly decried the failure of the state government to provide incentive awards and remedial teaching to the students of high schools and higher secondary schools of the state.
A release of DESAM stated that the scheme for providing incentive awards and remedial teaching began in 2008, but the scheme has been stopped suddenly raising doubts of misappropriation of the fund sanctioned for the said scheme.
A huge amount Rs 2.53 crore has been sanctioned for providing incentive awards to the first divisioners while another Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned for conducting remedial teaching. The students and school authority who are the beneficiaries of this scheme could not avail the benefits of this scheme, it said.
The release further said that the scheme has been designed to uplift the quality of education in the state but the failure of the state government has greatly disappointed the students.
The DESAM also appealed to the concerned authority to look into this matter and provide incentive awards to the students as soon as possible.
