IMPHAL, Feb 7: Decrying the killing of a police constable who was shot death yesterday in front of his Sawombung residence gate under Lamlai police station, a joint action committee was formed today which has imposed a blockade along the National Highway 150 Imphal to Ukhrul stretch for 24 hours commencing from 5 am of February 8 to 5 pm of February 9.
The JAC was formed today in a meeting held at Sawombung bazaar during which the gathering also adopted various resolutions with charters of demands and later submitted the same to the Chief Minister of Manipur.
As a part of the resolution the meet agreed not to claim the lifeless body of the victim until the culprits involved in the killing are booked and punish by February 9.
The meet unanimously imposed a blockade on the national highway 150 Ukhrul to Imphal road from 5 am of February 8 till February 5 pm.
The gathering also appeal to the concerned individual or organizations to clarify the motive behind the killing adding the local populace at the Sawombung area will consider it as a challenge to the public if the concerned party involved fail to clarify on the killing.
The meet has further demanded the concerned authority to provide a suitable job to the next of keen of the victim and other necessary compensations to their family as per norms.
It has further threatened to intensify its agitations if the organization or individuals involved in the killing fail to clarify the motive of the killing within the ultimatum set by the JAC.
Talking to media persons family sources of the victim believed that the victim could have been killed in connection with the girl he was intending to marry.
The sister of the victim maintained that the girl had called the family inquiring about the victim Ningombam Sunder being shot at, even though the incident was known to only a few family members.
The victim identified to be one Ningombam Sunder, 29, s/o Kunjo of Sawombung forest gate was shot by armed miscreants in front of his residence gate yesterday evening around 5 pm while chatting with friends. He later succumbed to his injury on the way to hospital.
