Gurgaon, Feb 14 (IANS): A 20-year-old youth from Manipur working as a sales assistant in a mall in Gurgaon was abducted and beaten up by three unidentified people late Sunday, a statement by the Northeast Support Centre and Helpline said Monday.

A complaint is, however, yet to be registered with the police, it said.

According to the statement, the Manipuri youth left work at 1.30 a.m. and was waiting to go home when the three unidentified assailants came in a car and abducted him.

`I was taken to some place opposite the Ambience Mall and mercilessly beaten without any reason. My hand has been fractured and chest and back badly injured. They kept me in that place the whole night and left me at daybreak,` the statement quoted the youth as saying.

`I was carrying cash and an ATM card too but there was no attempt to loot me. I haven`t had any problem or quarrel with anyone. I don`t understand what was their intention to attack me,` he added.

Although there has been no formal complaint until now, Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the Northeast Centre, said that the young man`s company has assured him of all possible help. Chandra alleged that this was a case of racial discrimination.

`We will appeal to the Gurgaon police commissioner to develop a plan of action to prevent such cases of racial attacks on youngsters from the northeast community here,` Chandra said.
