Marathon Ukhrul population enumeration 2nd phase start

UKHRUL, Feb. 10: A comprehensive marathon Population Enumeration of the Census 2011 is in full swing concentrated on the task in Ukhrul, at the official quarter of the Deputy Commissioner, N. Ashok Kumar, since yesterday.
According to a release issued by the Ukhrul Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Rajen Visahal, stated that the Population in the Phase two of Census 2011 started with enthusiasm and optimism today with the head of the district administration, the Deputy Commissioner, N.Ashok Kumar (IAS), being the first person to be enumerated in the district.
In underlining the release the importance of the census in the planning and development of the country, the DC informed that around 500 government employees would be undertaking the population enumeration in all the villages of some 300 villages of the Ukhrul district commencing from February 9 to 28.
In the meantime, an exhibition foot-ball match organized by the Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) sponsored by the Directorate of Census Operations, Manipur was held at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) play field in Ukhrul District Head Quarter on February 8 last to create Public awareness about the Census and its importance.
The release further asserted the “hall mark” of the ongoing census 2011 exercise is the preparation of the National Population Register (NPR) under which each and every resident in the Country would be issued an Identity Card containing a unique identity number, photograph ( Pass Port), finger prints and iris imaging. The Deputy Commissioner who is also the Principal Census Officer of the Ukhrul District exhorted one and all to Co-Operate in the Census 2011 exercise, summarizing it nicely- “Counting on everyone, so that each and everyone gets counted” without short-listing any single member.
