IMPHAL, Feb 17: Just after the declaration of the result of Konthoujam bye-election, a violent clash erupted between the supporters of Trinamool Congress candidate K. Sharat and INC candidate Dr. S. Ranjan today at around 1 pm at Konthoujam under Patsoi Police Station.
A driver of a Maruti car bearing registration number MN-1-3348 was reportedly hurt when a mob smashed the windshields of his car during the clash.
The police commandos arrived at the spot and blank-fired several rounds to disperse the mob. There was no report of major damage or casualty in the clash.
According to reports, the incident happened when a large number of supporters of K. Sharat rallied through every street of Konthoujam assembly constituency celebrating Sharat`™s victory happened to pass the residence of INC candidate. The clash erupted near the residence of Ranjan following an argument between the supporters of both the parties over the alleged use of derogatory remarks against Ranjan by the supporters of Sharat.
The timely intervention of the police prevented the situation from further aggravation.
