Passenger vehicles to stay off Imphal-Sanjembam route

IMPHAL, Feb 4: The Sanjembam Transport Cooperative Society along with local meira paibis of Sanjembam village and surrounding areas today staged a sit in protest decrying the act of burning down of aTata Magic at Kamo Chinjin area under Lamlai PS yesterday evening suspected to be connected to monetary demands.
The protestors further organized a public meeting and resolved not to ply on the said route until an amiable agreement is brought.
According to Takhelmayum Jiten, 50, s/o T Iboyaima of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, owner of the burnt vehicle he was made to stop at gun point and was further taken to Kamo Chinjin Khunou area with one of his assailants riding on his tata magic while another two followed on an Activa Honda.
On reaching Kamo Chinjin he was made to lie on the ground with his face down, however realizing that one of the assailants had taken out his gun, he ran for his life and with the grace of god safely and reach Sanjembam area.
He managed to gather the villagers of Sanjembam and went to the location where he had left his vehicle and the assailants, however they have already left.
Sources also maintained that all passenger vehicles plying on Sanjembam, Takyel and Imphal have been served with monetary demands of Rs 3000 per annum. The extortionists had also threatened to shot dead anyone defying the demand.
