IMPHAL, Feb 6: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences is trying to increase the intake of MBBS students admitted from the present 100 to 150 per year.
This was announced by Dr D.C. Jain, the Special Director General of the Ministry of Health Services on Saturday at the RIMS Jubilee hall while interacting with the faculties of the institute at the conclusion of a two day visit, informed a statement issued by the Media Advisor of the RIMS.
It noted that apart from students of seven NE states there are 15 seats reserved for students from other parts of the country.
The Director of RIMS Dr S. Sekharjit and other senior faculties conducted a short survey of the departments and the hospital. Moreover the Director apprised D.C Jain that apart from the old buildings most of the equipments had become outdated and the number very inadequate.
Dr Jain agreed that some hostels of the post graduate students are in dilapidated condition and gave assurance that new ones will be constructed. Most of the buildings in RIMS are 40 years old. New ones will be constructed so that each department has its separate building. New equipments will be purchased for all departments. The absence of boundary walls in the backdrop of the law and order situation has to be attended to and he felt that the same must be constructed soon, said the statement.
He said that the health Ministry will give top priority on the development of the infrastructures since RMC had been constructed to provide medical education to just 50 students.
The issues had been discussed in the executive council meeting held on January 31 in Delhi and Dr Jain who heads a special sub committee had come here to see for himself the ground realities, claimed that statement.
