Road mishap claims three, six hurt

    IMPHAL, Feb 11: Three people were killed while six including a ten year old were injured in a suspected steering wheel failure of a Tata Sumo related accident yesterday near the Maram bazaar.
    The accident occurred yesterday evening at around 3:30 pm when due to the suspected steering wheel failure the vehicle fell down a small gorge along the road near the Maram Power Station under Mao PS.
    Sources revealed that all occupants of the hired vehicle were from the same locality of Oinam village and were returning from a marriage party at Senapati when their vehicle met with the mishap.
    Among the three dead victims Zainungla, 46, w/o Thithi and Theo, 65 died on the spot while Khai, 54 succumbed to injuries at the RIMS hospital.
    The injured persons have been identified as Peter, 10, whose mother Zainungla died in the accident, Suny, 60 s/o (late) Thilang, Kelab alias Sunila, 21, whose father Theo also died in the mishap, Margaret, 20, d/o Suny. All four have been admitted at the RIMS hospital late yesterday evening.
    Another two identified as Angela and Khailung s/o Theo escaped the mishap with only minor injuries and are stated to be at home.
    Meanwhile sources revealed that the Nepali driver of the Tata Sumo is absconding since the mishap happened.
