IMPHAL, Feb 6: The state national games contingent comprising of 180 male players, 189 female players and 103 officials has set a target of securing 95 gold medals at the forthcoming 34th National Games to be held at Jharkhand.
Speaking to IFP, the general secretary of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), Laishram Manglem said that the state contingent is sure to bag the overall trophy of the National Games by securing at least 95 gold medals in the disciplines of athletics, archery, aquatics, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, handball, judo, rowing, sepaktakraw, shooting, taekwondo, triathlon, weightlifting and wushu.
Altogether 15 males, 15 females and 5 officials will take part in athletics; 12 males, 12 females and 6 officials in archery; 19 males, 19 females and 7 officials in aquatics; 3 males, 6 females and 4 officials in boxing; 26 males, 11 females and 3 officials in canoeing and kayaking; 6 males, 6 females and 3 officials in cycling; 7 males and 11 officials in equestrian; 12 males, 12 females and 10 officials in fencing; 20 females and 3 officials in football; 2 males, 3 females and 5 officials in gymnastics; 16 females and 3 officials in handball; 8 females and 2 officials in judo; 2 male, 1 female and 3 officials in karate-do; 15 males, 9 females and 6 officials in rowing; 15 males, 15 females and 6 officials in sepaktakraw; 6 males, 5 females and 2 officials in shooting; 1 male, 1 female and 1 official in squash racket; 8 males, 8 females and 4 officials in taekwondo; 3 male, 3 female and 4 officials in triathlon; 1 male, 6 females and 4 officials in weightlifting; 2 females and 2 officials in wrestling; and 15 males, 11 females and 8 officials in wushu.
The wushu discipline has the highest number of targeted 24 gold medals in the national games.
The chief-de-mission of the state contingent is N. Shyamananda Singh.
