TRAU clinches state league trophy while defending champ NISA finishes at runners-up

IMPHAL, Feb 2: The much speculated 5th Manipur State League Football Tournament concluded today with TRAU as the champion and NISA as the runners-up of the tournament.

TRAU won the tournament with 49 points while defending champion NISA stood second with 46 points. MPSC finished off the tournament at third place with 44 points.

At the concluding match between NISA and SSU played today at Khuman Lampak, NISA defeated SSU by a solitary goal made by N. Jimmy in 70th minute of the match.

In another match of the day, AIM thrashed NEROCA by 1-0 goal.
The two bottom-line teams, ESU and AIFA have been relegated from the League. ESU made a total of 22 points in the tournament while AIFA has been scratched off for failing to attend one of the matches of the League.

Meanwhile, SSU gets the fair play award of the tournament which carries a cash prize of Rs 50, 000. The champion TRAU and runners-up NISA receive Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 1 lakh respectively.

It may be mentioned that TRAU won the first edition of Manipur State League and this is their second trophy of the State League. On the other hand, NISA had won the State League three times in a row right from the second edition to fourth edition.
